An au pair is generally a national from a European country or sometimes from a country outside of the EEA. They are normally aged between 17-27 and come over to England to learn the English Language.
An au pair lives with your family, and in return for there board and a small allowance, the au pair will support the family with household chores and childcare, the only additional requirement is that the au pair is given the opportunity to study. We would suggest that an au pair is not left in charge of the children for long periods, they are generally paid between £50 - £150.
